Money does buy things. Things fuel our lives. We certainly need food, shelter and some sense of well-being to survive. We also need items such as clothing, transportation, furniture and appliances to have a reasonable life in these modern times. Spending money carefully, cautiously and within you means is essential for a strong financial picture.
I have watched people spend money carelessly and haphazardly. Some people seem to have no plan or purpose when spending their money. I have seen people rush to a store to buy items which are on sale without first evaluating if it is something they want, need or can afford.
People also often purchase clothing, household items and other non-essential items before thinking if they have a similiar item at home or need the item. Shopping with other people and responding to “sales” often leads to unnecessary impulse purchases. Shop your closet and before you go out.
A good exercise is to go through your items, one category at a time, and determine what you have, how much of each item you have and what you actually need.
What are a few items you have purchased recently which you didn’t actually need? What are some items you are considering purchasing? Do you need them? Can you use something you already have?
