Football, Baseball, Hockey!!!!
In the fall, the sports surround us. Fun, excitement, comradery, spirit and of course WINNING!
Financial matters can be exciting too. Well, let’s pretend. I have been told many times that finances are not sexy or fun or exciting, so no one will be interested. So, let’s make it a little fun.
We can get great financial tips from our sports. All sports and all games require planning, training, offense, defense and ultimately WINNING!
Here are some game terms that we can apply to our finances.
- Game Plan – You always need a plan. Evaluate, change, execute.
- Back-up Plan – You always need back up plans. If the investment doesn’t pay the returns you expected, have another plan.
- Game Day – Every day is Game Day in your financial life. Show up, dressed and prepared for the battles.
- Offense – You are in charge of moving the ball forward.
- Defense – You are responsible for stopping opponents from taking your ground.
- Kick – Sometimes it’s okay and necessary to kick bad decisions out of your life.
- Punt – It’s okay to give up sometimes and punt a bad financial decision.
- Hold – It’s usually a good idea to hold. Hold onto good investments, good financial arrangements and good jobs.
- Run – Well, sometimes you need to run to get where you want to be – run to grab a good deal and run to get out of a bad transaction.
- Coach – You are the coach of your financial decisions. You pick the players and the positions.
- Train – Do the research, practice better spending and saving habits.
- Believe – Believe in yourself, your strategy and that you can have a better financial picture.
- Give it your All – No one cares more about your finances than you. No one has more to win or lose than you. Put your all into it.
- Throw the Red Flag – Ask for a formal review sometimes. Ask questions. Ask for explanations of your loan terms, fees and your investment returns.
- All the Positions – Your financial game requires you to fill all the positions. You are the coach, planner, offense, defense, kicker, etc. The more well-rounded and skilled you are, the better your financial game will be. And the more you will WIN!
